Product Information

LAMOTRIG contains Lamotrigine, an antiepileptic drug (AED). It can be used as adjunctive therapy or, in some cases, as the initial treatment. It is particularly effective in managing seizures in Lennox–Gastaut syndrome.

LAMOTRIG is prescribed for:

  • Adjunctive treatment of partial seizures
  • Adjunctive treatment of generalized seizures, including tonic–clonic seizures
  • Seizures associated with Lennox–Gastaut syndrome

Why is this Medication Prescribed?

LAMOTRIG is prescribed to help control seizures in patients with epilepsy, including complex forms such as Lennox–Gastaut syndrome. It may be started as the first antiepileptic drug or added to other seizure medications.

Uses

  • Partial seizures
  • Generalized seizures (including tonic–clonic)
  • Lennox–Gastaut syndrome

Benefits

  • Helps reduce the frequency and severity of seizures
  • May improve overall seizure control when added to other AEDs
  • Can be used as monotherapy or in combination treatment

How Should this Medicine be Used?

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Usually started at a low dose and gradually increased to reduce the risk of side effects.
  • Can be taken with or without food.
  • Swallow dispersible tablets whole, chew them, or dissolve them in water as directed.
  • Do not stop taking suddenly unless advised by your doctor, as this may increase seizure risk.

Other Uses

LAMOTRIG is also used as a mood stabilizer in bipolar disorder to help prevent episodes of depression.

⚠️ Severe Skin Reaction Warning

This medicine may cause serious, potentially life-threatening skin reactions such as Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS) or toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN).

  • The risk is highest in the first 2–8 weeks of treatment.
  • Stop the medicine and seek urgent medical help if you develop rash, blistering, peeling skin, mouth ulcers, or eye irritation.
  • Never restart Lamotrigine if you have experienced a severe rash with this medicine.

Special Precautions

  • Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • This medicine may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or mood changes—monitor closely and report changes immediately.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medications you take, as Lamotrigine interacts with certain antiepileptics and contraceptives.
  • Pregnancy: consult your doctor, as Lamotrigine may be used but dose adjustments and monitoring are needed.
