Product Information

CYFLOX contains ciprofloxacin 0.3% w/v, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. It is used as an eye or ear drop to treat bacterial infections by stopping bacterial growth and replication.

Why is this Medication Prescribed?

CYFLOX is prescribed to treat bacterial infections of the eyes and ears. It helps relieve redness, discharge, and discomfort caused by infection, and prevents complications that may affect vision or hearing.

Uses

  • Eye Infections:

    • Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye)
    • Corneal ulcers
  • Ear Infections:

    • Certain bacterial ear infections, as directed by your doctor
  • Surgical Use:

    • Pre- and post-operative infection prevention in eye surgery (e.g., cataract surgery, corneal transplant)

⚠️ Tendon & Nerve Risk Warning
Ciprofloxacin and other fluoroquinolones may increase the risk of tendon damage (including rupture, particularly the Achilles tendon) and nerve problems (peripheral neuropathy).

  • Stop the medicine immediately if you develop tendon pain, swelling, or weakness.
  • Stop the medicine if you experience tingling, numbness, burning, or nerve pain.
  • Seek urgent medical advice if these occur.

☀️ Photosensitivity Risk Warning
This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.

  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning beds, and sunlamps.
  • Use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors.
  • Seek medical advice if you develop severe sunburn or skin rash.

Special Precautions

Before using CYFLOX, inform your doctor if you:

  • Have a history of tendon problems or nerve disorders
  • Have previously reacted to quinolone antibiotics
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding — use only if clearly prescribed
  • Are using contact lenses — avoid wearing them during eye infections

Possible Side Effects

Common (usually mild):

  • Eye/ear irritation, burning, or stinging after application
  • Temporary blurred vision

Less common but serious:

  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling, breathing difficulty)

Storage & Disposal

  • Store at room temperature, away from direct light and heat
  • Do not freeze
  • Keep bottle tightly closed when not in use
  • Discard remaining solution after 4 weeks of opening the bottle
  • Keep out of reach of children

Emergency Guidance

  • Seek emergency help if you develop:
    • Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling of face/lips/throat, breathing difficulty)
    • Severe eye pain or sudden vision loss
    • Signs of tendon rupture (sudden pain, swelling, difficulty moving a joint)
    • Severe sunburn or unusual skin reaction
  • Contact your doctor immediately for persistent irritation, worsening infection, or unusual symptoms
