Product Information

Apismart 5 mg Tablet is an anticoagulant (“blood thinner”) used to prevent and treat blood clots. It works by blocking clot formation in veins and arteries, reducing the risk of serious complications such as stroke, heart attack, and pulmonary embolism.

It is commonly prescribed for people with irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation), or after knee or hip replacement surgery to prevent clots. Treatment may be long-term, and in some cases lifelong.

Why is this Medication Prescribed?

Apismart is prescribed to:

  • Prevent and treat blood clots in the legs, lungs, brain, and heart
  • Lower the risk of stroke and heart attack in patients with atrial fibrillation

Special Precautions

Do not take Apismart if you:

  • Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding (not recommended during breastfeeding)
  • Take other medicines that affect blood clotting

Unlike some anticoagulants, Apismart does not require regular PT-INR blood tests.

Possible Side Effects

Most side effects relate to bleeding. Contact your doctor immediately if severe or unusual.

Common side effects:

  • Easy bleeding (nosebleeds, bruising, gum bleeding)
  • Low blood pressure (dizziness, fainting)
  • Nausea
  • Skin rash

Storage & Disposal

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture and heat
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Do not use expired tablets
  • Dispose of unused medicine safely, following pharmacist instructions

Emergency Guidance

  • In case of overdose, seek emergency medical help immediately
  • Symptoms may include severe bleeding, fainting, dizziness, or blood in urine/stool
  • If accidentally taken by a child, call emergency services right away
